Oklahoma Bible Academy senior Micah Wilson has found more than a sport in softball. Since beginning her playing career in about fourth grade, Wilson has embraced the relationships, energy and lessons that have come with competing for the Trojans.
“I have competed in softball since I was in about 4th grade, and I just enjoy how much fun I have being silly with my teammates,” Wilson said.
That team-centered perspective is one of the biggest reasons Wilson enjoys being part of the OBA program. She appreciates the accepting atmosphere created by her teammates and the ability to find support, regardless of the circumstances of a game or day.
“I love how fun and accepting everybody is. I feel like no matter what mood I am in; I can always find a teammate who will match my energy perfectly,” Wilson said.
Wilson also credits head coach Chad Murray for establishing a culture built on care and service. She said his approach has made an impression on the players beyond the field.
“Our coach, Chad Murray, has so much knowledge, yet he is one of the most humble guys I know, and he actually really cares about us, and it shows by how much of a servant he is for us,” Wilson said.
As a player, Wilson’s speed is a major strength. She takes pride in her ability to create opportunities on the base paths, particularly through stolen bases. At the same time, she is candid about continuing to improve every part of her game.
“I am really fast, so stealing bases is probably what I’m best at. But I definitely could’ve improved on literally everything else,” Wilson said.
Wilson has learned to measure success through attitude and effort, even when she is not the team’s top player.
“I learned that I need to do my best even when I’m not the best on the team and that the only thing you can control is your attitude and effort, and doing such is necessary,” Wilson said.
Away from softball, Wilson runs track and serves as executive vice president of student council. After graduation, she plans to study biology and nutrition before pursuing a master’s degree in dietetics.
