Oklahoma Bible Academy’s Benjamin Burrell
Benjamin Burrell’s senior year at Oklahoma Bible Academy has been defined by more than athletic achievement. The three-sport varsity athlete approaches football, basketball and baseball with a mindset shaped by faith, friendship and perseverance.
On the football field, Burrell lines up as a tight end and defensive end, roles that demand both physical toughness and mental discipline. He said the hardest part of playing tight end is maintaining a team-first mentality when blocking instead of chasing touches. “Athletics has taught me to persevere through life’s hardships even if you don’t want to,” Burrell said.
His preparation begins long before kickoff. Before each game, Burrell walks the field and prays, asking God for strength while envisioning success. He cites former Auburn quarterback Bo Nix as his biggest inspiration, admiring how Nix plays for God and does the right thing on and off the field.
Burrell’s teammates have also shaped his approach to the game. He said Jacoby Justus has left the biggest impression on him because Justus gives 100% effort in practice, pushing Burrell to improve daily. One of his favorite memories came during his junior year against Garber when he recorded a pick-six. Another standout moment involved teammate Cal Cayot, who made an unexpected long touchdown run despite not being known for his speed.
What Burrell enjoys most about being on the team is the closeness among players. “We are all close friends with each other and get along well,” he said. He added that what he loves most about his teammates is their openness and accountability toward one another.
Beyond football, Burrell participates in basketball and baseball, serves on the school’s tech team and is part of OBA’s student leadership group. In his free time, he works out or plays pickleball with friends. His favorite subject is history, and his favorite teacher is Mr. Roth.
When not competing or studying, Burrell often spends time at David Allen Ballpark in his hometown, where he enjoys playing and watching baseball. The venue holds special meaning for him as a multi-sport athlete who has helped lead OBA baseball to the regional finals for the first time in school history during his sophomore season.
Burrell’s high school career reflects a balance of athletic excellence, academic engagement and spiritual growth. As he prepares for life after graduation, the lessons learned through competition and community remain central to his identity.
