Oklahoma Bible Academy’s Asher Young
Oklahoma Bible Academy’s Asher Young has found a meaningful way to combine music, faith and leadership through the school’s worship team. As a senior, Young says the experience has allowed him to grow spiritually while helping lead others in worship.
Young serves as one of the worship team’s lead singers and also plays guitar, giving him a visible role during chapels and other school events. He said the chance to use music in a Christ-centered setting is what he values most about being part of the group. “I love being on the worship team because I get to play music, which is something that I have always loved, and lead my fellow students in praising the God who died for us,” Young said.
His work has extended beyond regular campus chapels. During the school year, Young helped lead worship at several chapel services and also guided a small group of high school students who led worship at the middle school retreat earlier in the year. That opportunity, he said, reinforced what makes representing OBA special to him. Young said the school has played a major role in his own spiritual development, and he values the possibility of helping younger students grow in their faith through music.
Young draws inspiration from people who model faith in everyday life. He pointed to English teacher Daniel Cummins as someone who has influenced him because of his wisdom, character and commitment to using his musical ability for God’s glory. He also said former student Ian Eastin left a lasting impression on him. Young described Eastin as one of the most godly people he has known, adding that his strong faith and willingness to share it with others stood out.
After graduation, Young plans to attend Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond. There, he intends to double major in youth ministry and family science, a path that reflects the same heart for service and spiritual leadership he has already shown at OBA.
