Ethan Ash’s football story is one defined by determination and growth. While he didn’t join the sport until the eighth grade, he now starts at wide receiver for Oklahoma Bible Academy (OBA), making an impact both on and off the field. “I never started until my senior year, but the work has definitely shown through. Joining football was one of the best decisions I have ever made,” Ethan said.
Ethan credits much of his passion for football to his childhood love for Oklahoma State University (OSU) football. “I always loved watching OSU games as a kid and thought it would be so cool to play that game in the future,” he shared. But beyond his initial inspiration, it’s been his coaches who have shaped him the most. “My biggest influences in my life are definitely my coaches. They push me to my physical limit every day, but they also legitimately care about me and how I am doing, specifically coaches Chris and Cam Cayot and Jay Mendenhall.”
As a senior, Ethan has embraced his leadership role on the team. “I prepare throughout the week with practices, spending time in the weight room, and watching my diet and sleep.” But beyond physical preparation, he prioritizes maintaining a positive attitude, even in tough moments. “My job is to help keep the spirits up and continue giving every bit of effort that we have.”
Despite losing a strong senior class last year, Ethan is proud of how this year’s team has stepped up. “Many of the guys, including myself, have stepped up to lead the team this year, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the team that we have”. His goal isn’t just to win, but to play with maximum effort and honor God. “If we do that, the scoreboard will take care of itself. However, above everything else is giving glory to Christ on the field.”
One of Ethan’s favorite moments this season was recovering an onside kick during his second start on kickoff. “It may not have been much, but it was such a cool experience to make a play that affected the momentum of the game.”
Looking ahead, Ethan plans to attend OSU and pursue a career in the medical field, with hopes of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. Although he won’t be playing football in college, the sport will always hold a special place in his heart.
