Staying grounded and bringing positive energy are priorities that guide Addisyn Ryel every time she steps on the field for Oklahoma Bible Academy. “Stay healthy and to help my team have good positive energy,” she said when describing her personal goals this season, setting the tone for how she approaches both competition and teammates.
The freshman has quickly found her place within the Lady Trojans’ program, crediting the culture around her. “I’d say it’s really good. We all have our ups and downs. But we have each others backs,” Ryel said of the team’s morale. As a newcomer to OBA, she’s felt the impact of that support firsthand. “Trust. As a newcomer to OBA this year, everyone has welcomed me with open arms,” she said when asked about the biggest improvement she’s seen.
Those connections are fueling bigger aspirations for the season. “Have a winning season! And hopefully punch that ticket to state!” Ryel said of the team’s goals and motivation. A major reason for that confidence comes from what the Lady Trojans can do offensively. “Batting. We have a lot of strong bats. We have all been putting in our time in the weight room,” she explained.
Ryel’s versatility adds to that strength. “For fast pitch I am a catcher/utility. For slow pitch I will play wherever the team needs me. I’ve played 3rd, 1st and pitched some the last couple of years,” she said. Her attention to detail also shows in how she approaches each play. “I watch the batters feet position/step in the box,” Ryel said about reading a defense.
Preparation is a daily commitment, not just something reserved for game day. “That’s never ending. You have to be consistent in the weight room. And taking care of your body by eating right and hydrating properly,” she said. When it’s time to compete, her mindset stays rooted in effort and faith. “Play my hardest and trust in what God has given me.”
Looking ahead, Ryel hopes to leave a lasting impression at OBA. “That I put God first and work hard,” she said of the legacy she wants to leave. She also believes there’s more to the team than what fans see. “How much work we put in on our own in the off season.” Her favorite pregame song, “Broken Window by Whiskey Myers,” helps her lock in, while one moment already stands out. “Making the Cherokee Strip All-Tournament Team as a freshman.”
Addisyn Ryel is a freshman, standing 5’3”, involved in fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball along with travel softball. After high school, she plans to “go to college and keep playing softball.”
