For Oklahoma Bible Academy senior Kami Jenkins, basketball is more than a game — it’s a platform to work hard, build relationships, and honor her faith. “My personal goals this season are to work hard and give it my all every practice and game,” Jenkins said. “I always like to remember I’m playing for something bigger than myself. I’m playing for my teammates and for the glory of the Lord.”
A veteran guard for the Lady Trojans, Jenkins has embraced her leadership role both on and off the court. Whether she’s running the offense as point guard or spotting up as shooting guard, she’s focused on creating opportunities for her team. “I look for the gaps or how we could create a gap,” she explained. “Our defense requires a lot of talking, and we are starting to learn the more we talk the smoother it runs.” Communication has been a major area of growth for the Lady Trojans this season — and it’s something Jenkins believes has made all the difference. “The biggest improvement has been our communication,” she said. “The team has been very determined and eager to adjust to the changes from last season to this season.”
Jenkins takes her game-day preparation seriously, often getting in the gym long before the crowd arrives. “I like to get in the gym a few hours before the game and get plenty of game-time shots up,” she said. That attention to detail and dedication to her craft reflect the same mindset she hopes to be remembered for after graduation. “I want to leave a legacy that displays hard work on and off the court,” she said. “Basketball is not all about how many points you score, but how you positively impact your teammates, coaches, and fans.”
For Jenkins and her teammates, the bond they share is what truly sets this group apart. “Our biggest strength right now is our sisterhood,” she said. “We are such a close team and trust is a major part of a good team.” That unity fuels everything they do — from warmups to workouts. “We are fueled by music,” Jenkins laughed. “When it is time to run or start practice, music has to be playing before we start anything.”
Looking back, one moment stands above the rest. “My favorite memory was winning the state championship with my sister and best friends last year,” Jenkins said. “Our major goal this season is to enjoy the game of basketball while giving 100% effort.”
Outside of basketball, Jenkins also competes in volleyball and is preparing for life after high school. “My plans after high school are to use my cosmetology certificate and enter into the workforce,” she said — a reflection of her drive, determination, and dedication to doing everything with purpose.
