A multi-sport athlete at Oklahoma Bible Academy, senior Ashlyn Young has made her mark on the volleyball court, basketball floor, and golf course. Whether she’s setting up her teammates as a volleyball setter or facilitating plays as a point guard on the basketball team, Ashlyn thrives on competition and hard work.
“I’m motivated by my fear of failure and the reality that if I want something, I have to work for it,” she said. “I can’t expect everything to be given to me.”
That work ethic has helped her succeed as a student-athlete, but she gives credit where it’s due. “Success in sports has come from having hardworking teammates and the extra hours we’ve all put in after practice,” she said. One of her proudest moments came last season when she helped lead her volleyball team to the state tournament—a milestone she attributes in part to the growth she shared with teammates like Brianna Colby and Aaliyah Hopper.
Ashlyn enjoys the friendly rivalry with nearby schools, especially beating Chisholm. “We know each other personally, which makes it fun,” she said. Looking ahead, she’s excited to compete alongside Kayla Cunningham and Izzy Davis this season, two players she believes will push her to grow. She also gives a shoutout to libero Kami Jenkins, whom she calls “a hidden gem” for her grit and consistency in an often-overlooked position.
Outside of sports, Ashlyn is active in the art department and deeply values her faith. She’s inspired by her grandmother, Johnson, for her unwavering strength and spiritual devotion, and by a favorite teacher, Mrs. Sandwick, for offering guidance and encouragement. Her faith continues to grow thanks in part to influencers like Cassie Blanco, whose spiritual TikTok content resonates with her.
Ashlyn plans to pursue a career as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) after high school. For now, she is grateful to represent OBA. “It means a lot. I’m honored to be part of a supportive community that loves God and shows up for us in every way.”
