OUTLOOK
The Oklahoma Bible Academy Lady Trojans are poised for an exciting 2024 volleyball season, with the entire 2023 team returning to the court. Head coach Randy Roth expressed optimism about the upcoming season, highlighting the return of key players and the continuity of the team. “With no seniors last season, OBA has the entire 2023 team returning for the 2024 campaign,” Roth said. This continuity is expected to be a significant advantage as the Lady Trojans build on last years’ experience.
Leading the charge for OBA are senior outside hitter and captain Brianna Colby and junior outside hitter Lucia Groendyke. “Colby and Groendyke were a formidable duo in 2023 and look to continue to build on that momentum,” Roth noted. Their synergy on the court will be a critical factor in the team’s success this season.
In the middle, senior Aaliya Hopper is expected to step up her game, developing into a force at the net. She will be joined by fellow senior Karson Jenkins, forming a strong defensive wall. The team’s setting duties will be handled by juniors Ashlyn Yound and Kami Jenkins, while senior Elexis Pendleton returns on the right side.
Coach Roth is realistic about the challenges ahead, acknowledging the tough schedule filled with schools from larger classifications. “Once again, OBA has a tough schedule filled with schools from larger classifications, so this squad will need to hit the ground running from the start,” he said. This challenging schedule is seen as an opportunity for the team to test their skills and grow throughout the season.
Brianna Colby, the team’s senior outside hitter and captain, has been a cornerstone of the Lady Trojans since her sophomore year, with significant action even as a freshman. Coach Roth praises her impact, saying, “Brianna has been a starter since her sophomore year, but also saw significant action as a freshman. Her effort and intensity set the tone for the whole squad.” Colby’s dual contribution in leading the team in kills and digs underscores her vital role both offensively and defensively.
Elexis Pendleton, a senior right-side player, embodies the spirit and passion of the Lady Trojans. “Elexis loves volleyball! She does everything that she can to learn about the game and translate that knowledge into her playing,” Roth shared. Despite not being the tallest or fastest player, Pendleton’s dedication and enthusiasm make her an invaluable member of the team, inspiring her teammates with her contagious passion for the game.
As the 2024 season approaches, the Oklahoma Bible Academy Lady Trojans are ready to face the challenges ahead with a seasoned roster and a determined mindset, aiming to improve on their 18-20 record from last year and make a significant impact on the court.
